VONVENDI® and surgery
In a clinical trial, 100% of adult VWD patients had their surgical bleeding successfully managed with VONVENDI.
Study description
VONVENDI, given with or without additional recombinant factor VIII (rFVIII), was studied in a clinical trial to test how it would work to prevent excessive bleeding during and after surgery. The clinical trial included 15 adult patients who underwent a total of 15 surgeries.
In this trial, patients received VONVENDI before and after surgery as determined by the care team. rFVIII was given as needed.* Investigators rated bleed control on a 4-point scale where “Excellent”=1, “Good”=2, “Moderate”=3, and “None”=4. A rating of “Excellent” or “Good” was required to declare the outcome a success.
Study safety
Six patients reported 12 adverse events after starting treatment. One case of a blood clot in a deep vein, also known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), was considered possibly related to VONVENDI.
*Your doctor will decide if you may use VONVENDI by itself, or if you also require rFVIII along with VONVENDI, based on your clinical situation.
Bleed control for a range of procedures
VONVENDI can be used to prevent excessive bleeding during and after major and minor surgeries and procedures in various locations, including:
(eg, dental extraction)
(eg, nasopharyngoscopy)
(eg, cyst removal)
(eg, colonoscopy)
(eg, joint replacement)
Leslie’s Story
Diagnosed with VWD in 2003
"Once I was trained on how to do my own infusion, I infused on the eve of the surgery and again right before. I also infused after surgery—this was my normal for any surgery. I was amazed at how well this treatment worked for me."
Erica’s Story
Diagnosed with VWD in 1981
"I feel fortunate that there's been an increase in awareness when it comes to VWD, from diagnosis and available information to patient care."
Nicole's Story
Diagnosed with VWD in 2009
"Although I've faced many battles since I was diagnosed, the amount of support I had from all the other patients fighting the same battle gave me strength."
